It’s St. Patrick’s Day, so let’s reach into the grab-bag and pull out one of the Irish artists to play today.  Give it a good shake first, so as to have a better chance not to play U2! Ah, yes, why here we go–The Pogues: the epitome of punkass Irish folk bands.

Here’s the title song from their 1988 classic, If I Should Fall From Grace With God.  I almost played Fairytale of New York, but that really falls into the Christmas category, while If I Should Fall From Grace With God is certainly a rousing anthem you could raise a pint of Guiness to.

A Pogues deficiency cannot be cured, but you can alleviate symptoms by a dose or two of Fairytale of New York. Pretty sure you’d like that one, with Kirsty MacColl singing in a duet. It’s lovely!

When I was younger and lived in a terraced house in Salford, one of my neighbours used to play this album at FULL VOLUME out of his living room window for all the street to enjoy.

Fortunately I already had my own copy but the chance to listen again for free was always appreciated. Until the day the police came and told him to “turn that f**kin’ noise down”. Nice.
