Hipster Approved New Releases 08.03.10

It’s a light week for new stuff, but there are some good things to listen to this week:

Arcade Fire – Suburbs

Buckcherry – All Night Long

Dash Rip Rock – Call Of The Wild

Gov’t Mule – Mulennium

Los Lobos – Tin Can Trust

Squeeze – Spot The Difference The guys recently  re-recorded 14 of their biggest hits and fan favorites. My interest is piqued.

That Arcade Fire album is stunning — well worth dropping a few dollars for the whole thing.

As for the Squeeze “new release” — they don’t own their back catalog, thanks to having changed labels, so they just re-recorded all their hits, as close to the originals as possible, so that they do now own versions of these tracks that they can license for TV and movies etc. (They still own the publishing of these songs.) A clever end-run, eh? Graham Parker recently did the same thing, trying to “stick it to the man,” but was too honorable to release it as a CD.

Ah, the brave new world of music publishing…
